airlineroute.net reports that the service will operate 5 times per week as a red-eye out of Kuala Lumpur, returning from Darwin in the morning, utilising a Boeing 737-800. Flights are not currently bookable on the MAS website although Kayak.com and other internet travel agents have the flights listed for sale. Kayak indicates that flights will be operated by the much larger Airbus A330-300.
Out of KL flights will operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. From Darwin flights will operate Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
MAS operated to Darwin until 2002, at times using Boeing 777 wide-body aircraft, however this was as a stopover between KL and Adelaide. As a dedicate service to Darwin the smaller 737 would be more commercially viable.
The initial price offering on Kayak and other internet booking agents are far from attractive with a return fare of $1,131. This compares to $514 for PAL, $661 for Virgin Australia (code share) and $713 for Silkair for indirect, less convenient but nevertheless full service flights.
